Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium in 2015/16 and plans for next academic year

"Diminishing the differences"

Pupil Premium is an additional grant given to students who:

  • have been eligible for free school meals (FSM) at any time in the last six years
  • Children Looked After (CLA who have been in local authority care for 1 days or more)
  • have parents/carers in the armed services, who face particular challenges

We were allocated for the academic year 2015-2016:  £135, 120 for 148 pupils.

At The Snaith School we have developed many robust intervention strategies which have supported each individual student to achieve their potential and reach for ‘Infinity and Beyond.’

Below is a list of strategies that we use to support students and the total cost of some of these strategies. The intervention strategies exceed by far the total amount we receive for the Pupil Premium. The Pupil Premium is used to support all of these strategies:

Curriculum Support:

  • Revision sessions were held at regular intervals throughout the year in evenings, weekends and during school holidays. Transport was provided for pupil premium students to enable them to access this provision.
  • Revision guides were provided for all Y11 pupil premium students.
  • Students who qualify for Pupil Premium are supported with the cost of music lessons, equipment and trips (up to £100) to enhance their learning experience whilst at The Snaith School.
  • Off site provision is funded if appropriate for PP pupils.
  • Achievement leaders have been appointed in English, Maths and Science with a key focus to track, monitor and intervene with PP pupil progress where necessary.
  • KS3 PP pupils making insufficient progress in reading are provided with one to one support.

The school directs our external support for careers to pupil premium pupils. In addition, we employ a Careers Co-ordinator to support our pupil premium pupils with work experience placements, Post 16 provision and applications and general careers Information and guidance.

Pastoral Care:

  • Uniform subsidies are provided when required.
  • A member of staff has been trained as an ‘Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) worker to provide emotional support to a number of PP pupils.
  • PP pupils have access to a mentor and their grades are a focus at key marginal meetings.
  • An Attendance Officer is employed and we have a focus on PP pupils. In 15/16 PP pupils achieved 93.5% attendance which is above the national average for PP pupils and is getting close to the national for all pupils. (94.8%) The school’s PA data (3.9%)is lower than the national figure of 5.6%. (ROL)
  • The school employs a Pastoral manager who supports PP pupils with behaviour. Exclusions in 15/16 were below the national data for all pupils and significantly below for PP pupils. (See ROL)

Plans for 2016/17

The funding we have been allocated for 2016-2017 is: £138, 495 for 153 pupils.

In addition to the above interventions and provision, the following areas will be explored to support students:

  • Introduction of ‘Infinity and Beyond Wall ‘and individual progress meetings with the Head Teacher.
  • The LA have been invited in to preview our pupil premium provision to identify our best practice and share it across the East Riding. We will then act on their findings and suggestions.
  • A Governor ‘Pupil Premium Champion’ has been established who will ‘champion’ these pupils and challenge the Leadership Team.
